The Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung's flagship phone released in April 2017, which is (surprisingly), seven years ago. The funny thing is, this 7 year old phone could actually be the better choice out of the overwhelming amount of midrange and budget phones out there! For example, if you had to chose between the S8 and the Motorola G04, which was released THIS YEAR, which phone would you chose? Most people would probably say the G04 is better, since it was released this year, and even though it is cheap, shouldn't a phone that isn't even one year old be better than one that is seven years old, even if it was a flagship? Turns out, that isn't always the case. The S8 has a 1440p screen. Want to take a guess at the resolution of the G04? It's 720p. 720p ON A PHONE RELEASED IN 2024! My 9 year old Galaxy Tab E has a higher display resolution than that!

The Samsung Galaxy A05
Anyway, performance wise, they are roughly the same, with the same amount of ram, but the CPU and GPU are both different, so the G04 is ever so slightly faster, but not enough for it to make sense to buy a G04 when you can get an S8 for cheaper. Sadly, the S8 is still on Android 9, but flash Lineage OS on it, and it would probably perform better! Then, comparing the S8 against a budget Samsung phone, the A05, the same is true as with the Motorola. The A05 has a 720p display (How is the screen worse than on a 2015 tablet!), a slightly better CPU, a slightly better GPU, etc. But, the A05 has 6gb of ram, so I guess that's a plus. But as I'm bored of comparing specs, I guess I'll talk about design now.
The S8 is a good looking phone. But for SOME REASON, Samsung's designers decided to give the S8 a glass back. Why? I don't know, probably to make it look better? but who uses a phone without a case anyway? (ok - I don't have cases for my Lumia 920, S5 Mini or HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1, so I guess I do?) but if you are wanting to buy a budget phone, then just take a look at the S8. OS too old? Flash Lineage! (or another custom ROM) I assure you, it's better than that Motorola G34 you've been keeping your eye on for the past year. One thing it is definitely better than are those cheap Alcatel/TCL phones, like the 1B, and the Mobiwire ones, like the V22. Anyway, go buy a S8 if you want. I can say that the S8 is a good phone because it's my daily driver. It is reliable. It is well made. And it is CHEAP.
Mobiwire V22
The (pathetic) Alcatel 1B
Almost any phone is better than this Alcatel - just don't buy it. The Alcatel 1 is somehow even worse than the 1B. Actually, just stay WELL away from Alcatel if you want something decent. (Also, TCL owns Alcatel, so don't recommend their phones either - Alcatel is just rebranded TCL) Get an S8 instead. Or a Motorola. Or a Samsung. Or Oppo. or Sony. Or Huawei. You get the point.
